Celebrity Chef Matthew Kenney Signs Restaurant Lease at 1245 BROADWAY

New York, NY – With construction for the new 200,000sf boutique office building nearing completion at 1245 Broadway, Klövern AB of Sweden and New York City-based GDS Development Management (GDSNY), announced today that they have signed a lease with celebrity chef Matthew Kenney for a new 7,900-square-foot restaurant at the ground and lower levels of their 23-story class-A office building at the corner of 31st Street and Broadway.

“We could not be more thrilled to welcome Matthew Kenney to 1245 Broadway,” said Paul Amrich, Vice Chairman at CBRE, who is leading the office leasing for the project. “He is a chef of unparalled creativity and renown, who brings incredible value to our 1245 Broadway community with this full-service restaurant and, perhaps more importantly, in-office catering offerings.”

Kenney is an American celebrity chef, entrepreneur, author, and educator. He is the owner of more than 40 restaurants in 20 cities on five continents around the world. In New York City alone, his restaurants include: Sestina Pasta Bar, Double Zero, Sutra, Xyst, Hungry Angelina, and Casse-Cou Chocolate. He is also the author of 12 cookbooks and founder of dozens of restaurants, as well as the companies Matthew Kenney Cuisine, which oversees partnerships with Laduree, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Four Seasons Hotels among others. MKC’s Food Future Institute, which launched this past May, is an education business specializing in wellness and healthy eating.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to develop our most elevated restaurant to date at 1245 Broadway and launch our new flagship New York restaurant,” says Kenney. “The architectural vision and quality for this project aligns wholly with my approach to food and I am looking forward to getting to know the community in the building and to being an active part of it.” His new restaurant space will be comprised of circa 2,900 square feet on the ground floor and 5,000 square feet on the lower level and will offer a full range of dining experiences. The plant-based restaurant will offer both fine dining in a more formal setting, as well as a brasserie-style menu in a more casual space. In addition, tenants of the building can take advantage of full service in-office catering. Take-out will also be available.

Rutger Arnhult, Klövern’s CEO, explains, “Wellness is a through line in the design of 1245 Broadway, so Matthew’s health-focused approach to food and lifestyle is a perfect fit for the building.” As a boutique building designed for wellness including state-of-the art air quality, touchless systems and generous terraces providing access to the outdoors, 1245 Broadway is already well-positioned to respond to the marketplace’s interest in health.

From its architectural poured-in-place concrete structure, to its massive triple-glazed 12-foot-high windows, and its large terraces, the project provides abundant light, fresh air, and quiet on a busy urban corner. A private tenant amenity lounge includes skylights, private phonebooths, a fireplace, communal work areas, and a beverage station, all with a Scandinavian, minimalist and natural feeling. When complete, the building will be LEED-silver certified.
